People
ask me, why do you even like him? He has a big nose, he’s not good looking, he’s
so old, he’s so short…trust me, I have heard them all. I look at these people
and I shrug my shoulders and simply say, he makes me smile. Whether it be his
acting skills, his witty comments in his interviews, his sacrifice and hard
work that inspires many around the world, his charisma that gives him the ability
to just connect with any type of crowd. “I truly believe my job is to make sure people smile.” His struggle during his early life and even after
becoming such a big star, his humbleness is another trait that is so endearing “My life may seem glamorous from the outside
but off screen it's as ordinary as anyone else's.”
I
first saw him as a psycho in Bazigaar, Anjaam and Daar and was obviously
terrified as I was five years old …but as life went on for me, I saw him again as
cute and loveable Raj in DDLJ and Rahul in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai…and let me just
say that life was never the same again. There is a saying that “Bollywood gave
me unrealistic expectations” and let me tell you, he is a major reason for
creating the idea of a “romantic hero” in the lives of many women. Whether you like him or not, he will make you laugh
“Whenever I start feeling too arrogant
about myself, I always take a trip to the U.S. The immigration guys kick the
star out of my stardom.” We see and hear of how caring, loving and protective
he is to his sister, wife and kids, and even his female co-stars have respect
for him “Sometimes a lot of us men think
we are doing everything for the woman we love, but there is an aspect o
f a woman
a man doesn't understand.” Hope
that he continues to make films, that make the audience believe that he is the
only actor that would be able to do that particular role, let it be, Swades,
Chak De India, My name is Khan, Kal Ho Na Ho, to name a few.
I’ve seen him in Toronto four times, and
it has been one of the most surreal moments of my life. Those who have been
beside me during that time, know how excited and happy I get…even lost my voice
a few times. People think that I am crazy based on how far I would go to see
him or his films, and frankly, it is all worth for me. I listen to many of his
songs and know majority of them off by heart…some songs make me happy and some
sad, some even give me strength. Proud to say that he has been a major player who
has taken Indian cinema on a global level, and is the second richest actor in
the world!! Also, a very intelligent man who reads books of all genres and he
does a lot of charity (which he never advertises), and is a marketing
mastermind for his films, and despite
being older (and unfortunately being a chain smoker), he was even able to get
fit purely through his dedication, which is very inspiring!
I
will end this article of saying, Thank you Shahrukh, for all of your sacrifice
and hard work, please do what you are doing, and a selfish request from me
would be, please continue making me smile!
